FLOWERS & FLOWERS & PLUMS OH MY!

The smell of the blooming Gardenias are wonderful as you walk in the backyard. I remember when my mom was alive she used to love these flowers. As a young girl she would wear them in her hair.

Sadly my mom is no longer with us. I miss her a lot. Sometimes little things make me think of her. Not all the flowers in my home are from the garden. I made these out of sugar. Well gumpaste for those of you who decorate cakes. Yes you can eat these, but they wouldn't taste to good.

I made the little starfish and sand dollar too.

These little blue hydrangeas are sugar paste too. I made these several months ago. Last year we had so many plums on the tree in our backyard. I wasn't sure if we would get any this year. Hey, there's one! Looks like we will have sweet yummy plumbs after all!
Hey! I see another one! Right next to the little flower. Can you see it? Look hard, they blend in with the leafs.

After searching I found several little ones all over the tree. I wonder if I will have enough to make jam again this year. Last year I made several batches of plum jam.

I was going to show you my new thrift store finds I got today but I thought I would share some flowers and plums instead.

Hope you liked them. I will share my great finds with you next time I blog. I found a chair to go with the cushions from yesterday!

SUNDAY FUN DAY

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you all had a nice relaxing day today.

I was lucky enough to go with my two sisters, Patty and Maureen, to the movies to see Then She Found Me. It's the new Helen Hunt movie. It was pretty cute but I did think Helen Hunt had aged ALOT! If you get a chance to see it I hope you do. I think you will like it.

After the movie I spotted Marshalls across the parking lot and I'm pretty sure I heard it calling my name. I don't normally go in there but I've seen so many wonderful items some of you have gotten there that I just had to go check.

I was not let down either. I found two pretty white wire plant hangers. One was bigger then the other. I think they will look really nice once I get some moss in them and plant some pretty flowers. I'm not sure if I will hang them in the front of the house by the front or in the back.

At first I wanted more of them but then I thought if there were to many of them they wouldn't stand out and look special. So two was more then enough.

I also found some darling cushions. They were striped with pale blue (though in the photo it looks almost grey) and had some sweet pink roses on them. They are so soft. I think there may be down inside. So shabby chic looking. I had to get them.

As you can see, I put them on a wicker chair I have outside but they are way to small. So now I'm on the hunt for some cute chairs, to paint white, at the thrift store. Yeah, another reason to stop at every thrift store I pass.

I'm starting to get so many projects stacked up. I was planning on stripping my headboard today but it was 97 outside today. Way to hot for me to be out there working away. So I'm waiting for it to cool down then I can start turning my trash into treasures!

Working on projects

Well I made it to the thrift store and low and behold my headboard was still there! I was thrilled. I had been dreaming about it all night. But, sadly it was a king size and since I only have a queen it wasn't going to work for me.
I ended up getting another one. Not as nice but I think once I add the wreath applique and get it painted it will work out just fine. If not, well then I will just find another one to do. After all the headboard only cost me $3.00.
I rushed over to Home Depot and took out my list and quickly started to fill up my basket with all the supplies I was going to need to start painting. I also picked out a few flowers and ivy to put in my thrift store wire baskets that I got the other day.
The sales clerk rang me up and said "that will be $146.12". What! I almost fell over. Yikes, the headboard wasn't that cheep after all. However, the supplies will allow me to do many many projects so I was to upset after I thought about that. I also bought a humming bird feeder and some salt for our soft water so it really wasn't that much.
I put the plants outside, got a cold drink (it's still hot here) and took about a 15 minute rest. Then I headed outside to plant.

Oh no! My flowers were already wilting. I was a bit worried but I soaked them and they are coming back just fine now that it is cooling down for the evening and they had a nice big drink.

You can see the photos above. The one hanging basket can be seen in the photo with the hydrangea and then the other hanging one has the little cherub I got the other day. I think it looks cute there. How about you?

The Garden is starting to bloom!

Just starting out

Welcome to my new blog site. I thought I would join the rest of the world and start blogging what is going on in my life.

I stumbled upon Cindy's lovely blog at http://romantichome.blogspot.com/ and quickly fell in love with her whole home. So I decided to try to recreate it as closely as I could.

Since she found most of her things at thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets I know I can't just copy it but rather I have to be thrifty and crafty and find things that can give the appearance of this romantic cottage look.

Today I ventured out to the thrift stores and found a few items I was thrilled with. I spent less then $10 so that was even better! I even found a headboard for only $3.00 but I was to scared to get it as I was thinking I may not be able to paint it up cute. But now that I'm home I can't stop thinking of it and so I'm going back to get it......if it's still there.

I've posted a few photos to share those items with you.

I now have lots of things ready for my new bedroom. I have lace curtains, bird cages, candles and my good friend Sandra is going to let me go through her collection of vintage hankies so I can have a swag up just like Cindy.

So follow along with me and watch my bedroom get transformed.
