The next few days I am going to busy baking cakes. Yes, I said cakeS. Not just a cake but two cakes. Two big cakes.
I got a call from a local party planner asking me to help her out with two big parties she is working on.
One is a Willy Wonka theme and the other is a Baseball theme. Both are for kids.
I can't get over how many parents are willing to pay $350+ for a kids birthday cake.
I agreed to do them. I don't know why. I get so stressed when I make cakes where I get paid hundreds for them. I mean really, that's a lot of money for cake. At least to me it is.
I always worry that no matter what I do it won't be good enough to make the customer happy. But, I guess they are because I do get repeat customers and referrals.
When I do a cake all I see are the flaws. I pick apart everything and have never made a cake I was really happy with. I'm my own worst critic.
So, if I'm not around for a day or two, you know it's because I'm stressing over the cakes.
It's funny because I wanted to learn cake decorating just for fun. It is fun. Though when I get paid to do a cake it becomes a job and sort of takes the fun out of it.
Oh why do I do this to myself.....
I'd love for you to bake me a cake!! I wish that was a talent I had. I think to be able to take an idea and make it appear in cake for is awesome!! Everyday is a good day,,ther might be cake!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the wrong business! But that's California for ya, you can't get those prices here unless for a wedding maybe? Besure to show off your work and try to enjoy it! We like cake! lol
ReplyDeleteI love cakes but my "tradition" of baking them, throwing in the coconut and then stuffing my mouth with them until they're all gone prohibits me from baking them frequently, sugar! Sigh.......

You'll do just fine! I'm sure the cakes will be just beautiful....Looking forward to seeing the grand finale!!
ReplyDeleteWillie Wonka is one of my favorite childhood movies. What FUN that party will be and I'm sure your cakes will be fantastic and delicious.

You know you'll do a great job. Just remember the outcome of the cake and it will make it easier for you to do it.
ReplyDeleteHope you'll take a picture of them, so we can see how you've mastered the cake decorating.
Ciao
I'm sure your cakes will be just wonderful! I understand about being your own worst critic. . .I think most artists are! I hope you are able to show us the cakes when they are done. . .
ReplyDeleteLove cakes! Next to home baked pies, they are my favorite. And if they have a nice butter cream frosting I'm in heaven. Don't like those cakes that have that marshmellowy frosting ... just doesn't taste real to me. I'm sure yours will be beautiful. Share some pics if you can. xxoo
ReplyDeleteOh, Joanne, I know they will turn out beautifully as I've seen some of the cakes and cupcakes you've made (at least I've seen photos of them!)... Be sure to take lots of photos so we can see them when you're done!... Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage
ReplyDeleteI screening Willy wonka on June 20...I'd love to see your idea!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it!
