I JUST NEED TO VENT

I just got an email giving me a heads up for the new prices all the airlines are now charging. Not for the plane ticket itself but for other things that used to be free.

Things like checking on luggage. Not just your 2nd or 3rd piece of luggage but for ALL luggage now. Even one bag. Also, drinks, snacks and if you want to pick where you sit on the plane, will now cost you extra.

I know the airlines are doing what they can to cut costs but come on! Rather then letting us know they are raising the cost of the tickets they are now hiding the fees and nickle and dimeing us to death.

First it was doing away with your meal and charging to watch the movie. Then charging for checking in more then one piece of luggage.

But now, they won't even give you a 1/2 of a can of coke any more. How many people really don't fly with luggage? I always thought that cost was added into the ticket.

Also, does it really cost them anything to let you pick where you sit? I think it's getting pretty sad.

What's next? Oh I know, they will charge you for going to the bathroom.

So much for flying the friendly skies!

Click here if you would like to see the charges each airline is now charging. Be sure to add these costs in the next time you think you got a great price on your plane ticket.

  1. I keep saying..."with one step forward we take two steps back..." and that is about our economy. Just when you think you are making a baby step low and behold somebody comes in to trip you up with higher prices. Grrrrr...

I wonder if they sell medical masks these days?

  2. I don't fly anymore, honey, and this is just ONE of the reasons. If I did fly I'd stuff candy bars and peanuts in my purse. I hated flying before but hated it worse after all the new regulations went into effect on 9/11. It's just going to get worse. I'd rather sit in a car for 10 hours than get on a plane.

  3. It's probably cheaper to drive there.

My sister doesn't carry luggage, she sends her belongings by UPS, to her destination. I don't know it that works out for everyone though.

It's so outrageous to have to pay so much. I feel for ya, and your upcoming trip.

    Ciao

  4. I know! I was really mad last month when I flew and Delta charged me $15 for my bag. I am going out of town next week and going Southwest because they aren't doing that (yet). But I don't understand why the airlines are doing this right now. I know fuel costs were really high 6 months ago, but now fuel is back down so why all of the extra charges??

  5. Yaaah that's why I don't go anywhere it's such a ripoff. :\ What is really annoying is that they began charging for luggage because they said they needed to cover the costs of rising gas prices. Well gas came down...a lot...but they didn't take their fee away! The things I would say to them...

    All the best,
    Allison

  6. Hi Joanne,

All the extra's that used to be part of flying are long gone. When possible, we send a bag ahead (either UPS or fed-ex). It really ends up being less expensive. Another great part about that is you receive your pkg. Over the years I have had luggage go astray.

We are hoping to make a longer trip in October. I will be carrying on snacks and shipping the bags.

    Have a beautiful weekend.

  7. Just seems sneaky doesn't it? If you want to raise prices...go ahead and raise them. I don't agree with all the extra charges. I noticed that Southwest wasn't on the list. As far as I know, they are still resisting the urge to add on these extra fees.

  8. I think that is ridiculous and over the top to be charging for those items! Would you believe I have not flown in a plane since the 70's when I lived in California for a short time. I travel short distances and after reading this I am glad of it! I got really upset about the gas hikes a while back and that finally came down. Maybe if enough people complain about it this will change too? Hope so.

  10. Your Point is very valid! I agree, it'll probably be pay toilets next! That'll end the day someone with Irritable Bowel Syndrome who has a fear of flying ends up on the plane with no extra change! That'll teach 'em! LOL! ;)
