Last Spring I bought a beautiful pink rose bush. It was my first rose that I've ever bought. I love it. It's just about ready to pop into full bloom again. I'll be sure to share them with you as soon as they in their full glory.
This year, I'm on the hunt for white roses. I think I want a climbing rose bush to hide our ugly wooden fence. But, I'm not sure. Maybe I should put it in another pretty pot like I have my pink roses in.
If you have a white rose that you adore I hope you will share with me the name. I really know nothing about roses, other then how pretty they are. So, any tips, hints or ideas that you have would be more then welcomed.
Isn't Spring fun with all the great flowers out there just waiting to be purchased and planted in our gardens.
That's so funny, Joanne.. I've never had roses, either, but I planted my first last year - a pink rose bush! It's a trailing rose and I planted it in the ground next to a fence. It remains to be seen if it will come back this year or not (all flora is still dormant in my neck of the woods!) But I sure hope mine comes back as good as yours did!... Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage
ReplyDeleteYou only have 1 rose bush????? OMG...I have 22 in my small yard!
ReplyDeleteIn the Jackson & Perkins catalog, they have a antique white rose with big blooms that is called Sombreuil. I would suggest taking a look at their website to get better ideas. :)
The last time I counted, I had well over 50 rose bushes and by far my favorite white rose is Iceberg. I like it so much, I've got four of them. My Icebergs give me tons and tons of big beautiful roses perfect for bouquets, which is something I require from rose bushes (lots of flowers or you're out!). You can get an Iceberg rose in a regular-style bush or a climber, I've got both (one is a climber covering an arbor).
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love David Austin roses, every one I've added to my garden is beautiful, with huge, old-fashioned blooms heavy with heady scents. There must be a David Austin rose. Try looking at davidaustinroses.com, you can request a free catalog there.
And lastly, I don't think you are too far from Roger's Gardens, right? You need a rose field trip! :) Rogers has a nice selection of roses you could go check out to see what the blooms look like in person.
Have fun choosing your white rose!
Sounds very pretty. I love flowers and color combinations to experiment with. I have some seedlings started in my living room. If it doesn't get warmer soon..I'll have to transplant them into a bigger container. Spring really is coming, right??!!
ReplyDeleteJoanne..the most beautiful climbing rose I ever owned was one I had in Bakersfield when I was married to Frank. I had 22 rose bushes and I bought two to climb over an arbor. Cars would stop and people would get out to look at it. It was called AMERICA. It was pink but they may well have it in white. The rose are large and exquisite. If I can find a picture I will show it to you.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day sweet friend!!
Mona
White roses are a sign of purity and they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCiao
Hi Joanne,
ReplyDeleteMy goodness your garden is just beautiful with all the lovely plants in bloom. I love white roses, we just planted another rose bush this last weekend.
Have a very happy Easter,
Elizabeth
White Eden climbing rose is what I would get if I had room for it. I have the "pink eden". Here is a photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/triminh/739696341/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips yesterday on the fondant shells! I really appreciate that! I'm dying to make another cake soon!!!
I was at the grocery store today and notice all the beautiful bouquets of spring colored flowers trailing the isles tempting us to buy them for Easter, when I heard these women "gasping"....they were looking at a gorgeous bouquet of white roses, and they were spectacular! I love white roses but know nothing about them. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. Good luck on your quest. I'm sure you'll find exactly what you're looking for! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful aspiration! One can't have enough rose bushes. If you pick one make sure it is fragrant. I have some pinky-red ones that do a great job filling an ugly spot. I always think they will smell when I sniff them, but they have very little scent. I'm eager to hear how it goes. : )

I ran across your blog today as a link back to Rita Sova's newsletter. I love roases and grew up with master gardeners who raised and tested roses. The one rose I love for it's perfect and heavenly rose scent is the Angel Face. It is a lovely rosy mauve and smells like no other. They have even developed a climbing version. I know you are thinking white, but if you can find one, Angel Face will bless you with a beautiful display of blooms and pure joy of scent.
