ANOTHER PROJECT FINISHED!

I found this little curio cabinet at GOODWILL awhile ago. Only then, it wasn't white. It was fake dark wood looking. I didn't like it at all. But I thought maybe I could sand it down and paint it. So for $6.00 I bought it.

My sweet sister, Maureen, came over one day and sanded it down for me. Then I painted it. I let it sit outside to dry. That was weeks ago.

Today, I finally finished it. I sanded it smooth and distressed it. Then I put wax on it, let it dry and buffed it out. Now I love it!

I was so pleased with how much nicer it was after I waxed it. The wax just smooths everything out, gives it a nice professional finish and tones down the bright white just a tad.

I have to admit that the buffing gets old real fast though. It got me thinking about doing a bigger piece of furniture like my headboard that has been waiting for months to get done.

I think I'm going to have to get a car buffer as, I think my hand and arm would get way to tired buffing a big piece. I'm hoping someone I know has one I can borrow. Otherwise I'll have to buy one.

For now I've put my salt cellars in the curio cabinet. I don't know how long they will stay in there but until I find something else to put in there I hope the salt cellars enjoy their new home.

So tell me, when you paint your furniture, do you wax and buff it or leave it just painted? Leave me a message and let me know.

Just wanted to remind you, that if you have not signed up for my Christmas in July giveaway, you still have time. Just click on the link to the right of blog to go to the posting.

Hugs,
Joanne

  4. Hi Joanne,
Very nice cabinet and the treasures look great in it. I just paint and leave it. Haven't thought about waxing. Maybe that is something I need to try. And, yes when I start cleaning the craft room, I bet I will find some "hidden treasures". At least I'll have LOT of Stuff for my garage sale in Sept. See you later. Warmly, Deb

  5. WOW, you got a great deal for sure, little cottage chickee!!! I'm lusting after it now. Maybe I'll head on over to a thrift store to try and find one.

I'm too darn lazy to buff! If the paint is on and it chips so be it. That's the look I want anyway: shabby elegance!!

    Great job, honey pie!!
    Smoochies,

  8. What a great curio cabinet, and for 6 dollars too. You did a super job. I never even heard of waxing after painting, so I don't do it. But I am now, it sounds like a good thing to do. I am getting ready to redo a side table and will have to get some wax. Thanks for the info. Have a good weekend.

Just wanted to thank you for the sweet, encouraging comments you left on my blog. I'm still trying to digest this news...whoa, I'm still in a state of disbelief, as you can imagine. I appreciate everyone's prayers more than you know!

Hope you enjoy a great weekend!

  14. Joanne - that turned out sooooo cute! I have a little what-not shelf that I just picked up at a junk store....after seeing what you did with yours - I'm going to try that!! I have a friend that is a faux finisher - she loves using the wax for a finish too - so you were right on track girl!!
    Have a nice weekend!
