VINTAGE BUTTON PICTURE FRAME

I had planned on working on my headboard today but when I woke up I noticed it was raining. So the headboard has to wait.

I knew if I wasn't able to do the headboard I wanted to make my vintage button frame. I got the buttons and hot glue gun out and went to town.

I was quickly reminded why I hate using hot glue guns. OUCH! I burned myself several times. I even got a blister on my finger. Then I got out a glass and filled it with ice water. The next time I burned myself I dipped my finger into the ice water and the burn quickly went away.

I love how the frame came out. Of course it's not as nice as Cindy's at Romantic Home, but I think it's still pretty. Cindy is so nice to allow me to copy her ideas. She has so many wonderful ideas I wish I could do them all.

I put a picture of my grandmother in the frame. I'm not sure if I will keep her in there but for now it's her frame.

Oh, I also made the peony flower out gumpaste. They are one of my favorite flowers and sadly we can't get them to grow here in So. Calif. So I just have to make my own.

Don't forget, if you like the frame and other goodies I'm giving away all you have to do is send my brother a card or say a prayer for him and you will get entered. Also, if you post a link to my blog/give away you will get entered again.

Have a great day everyone. I'm off to go read my new magazines and relax.

Hugs,
Joanne

  2. Hey Ben,

I am NOT a little old lady. Oh wait, I'm going to be 50 in only a few days so maybe I am a little old lady. At least to a teen. Oh to be young again. :-)

Thanks for the well wishes for my brother.

  3. Oh my gosh...It looks just like mine! I don't know why you said it doesn't look as good, it looks like the exact same thing!

That comment from Ben cracked me up! Oh my, are we little old ladies? No Way!

  4. The button frame turned out very nice and it does look good with your grandmother in it. I finally got myself a cool glue gun....it has saved my fingers a hundred times! Do you find that you have more fun things to do than time allows? Now, we are blogging, too!! :)) By the way, your cakes are amazing!! I'd like to see the peony you made. My next wedding will be done with real peonies..white and pink.
I did most of my planting on the one day it didn't rain here. We are told it will be in the 90's by the end of the week and I find that hard to believe. But, my husband is out digging up a few more flower beds so I can really plant!

  5. Thanks Cindy, that's a big compliment coming from you!

    Flower,

The peony I did out of gumpaste is the flower next to the frame in the picture I posted. I know, it looked so real you couldn't believe it was made out of sugar huh? LOL

They say it's going to be in the 90's here too so to wake up to rain was odd.

  8. Hey Joanne,
Hope things are going well with your brother, I am continuing to pray daily for his health and healing!
What a comment by young Ben, did you get a look at his blog? Oh my word...
I guess all of us "little old ladies" should kick him in the blog for that comment! HUH!!
    :)
Hope your fur children treated you like a queen yesterday! I adore mine and they were extra good...

Your frame is really well done. Don't ever doubt yourself.
And Ben is just jealous he can't do the same things and get away with it around his friends.
And we are not old !

The gumpaste flower is one of my favorites too. The garden center said they grow well in colder climates. But they might do well here, in the SF Bay Area. I'll have to check them out in the fall. They also said that if you water them with ice water they might do well too ??
Take care and let us know how Gene is doing with rehab.

  10. Hi Joanne!! I hope this finds your brother getting stronger and you taking care of yourself... I know that visiting people on a daily basis can take a toll, so be good to yourself, too!

Referring to your comment on my blog, I also love Camelot and the soundtrack from the Richard Harris/Vanessa Redgrave movie version from the 60's (which I saw 3 times at the theater!). And I was very lucky to see Camelot on stage in San Francisco starring none other than Richard Burton. So yes, I'm also a huge Camelot fan and it brings back warm fuzzy memories for me!

I love the way your button frame turned out! And I cannot believe you created that incredible flower, although then I remembered the unbelievable cakes you decorate - you are an amazing artist!...Donna

  14. Hi Joanne, found your blog tonight. Love your button picture frame. I made one too out of buttons my Mom had from my Dad's shirts, her old clothes, my clothes when I was a little girl, etc. You did a nice job!

  15. I like the way your frame turned out! Sorry about the fingers. Hot glue is nasty to work with, but it does the job.

  16. I guess the reason I like your blog is because I am a little old lady! Well I'm older than you anyhow! You did a great job on the picture frame. I made one of those years ago with blue buttons. I might just get out my glue gun and make one with all the old white buttons I have.
I haven't stopped by in awhile so I'm having fun catching up on all your posts I missed!
